Meet the Candidates of the 3rd Edition of the International Opera Conducting Competition
The Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège is proud to reveal the selected candidates for the third edition of the International Opera Conducting Competition (CIDOO), a one-of-a-kind event launched in 2017. This prestigious competition provides an exceptional platform for young talents to showcase their mastery of orchestral conducting in the demanding and captivating world of opera.
A Competition with global reach
With 211 applications from 49 countries, this third edition underscores the growing appeal and international reputation of the event. Following a rigorous selection process, 24 candidates from 18 different countries, with an average age of 28, have been chosen to participate. This diverse and talented group promises a competition of the highest caliber, reflecting the success of this now well-established event on the global stage of classical music.
The CIDOO stands out for its immersive approach: every stage of the competition mirrors the key phases of opera production. Participants must showcase their technical and artistic expertise through four progressively challenging rounds:
- Conducting the overture with orchestra alone,
- Working with soloists accompanied by piano,
- Full rehearsal with orchestra, choir, and soloists,
- A final round open to the public, serving as a true spotlight for their talent.
