Yesterday, the 12 remaining candidates stepped onto the stage for a crucial test in opera conducting: working with soloists, this time accompanied by a piano instead of the full orchestra. A unique setup that put their ability to guide, support, and shape the music to the test, bringing out every nuance in phrasing and expression.

Finding balance, creating chemistry

With the soloists in the spotlight, each conductor had to adapt, communicate, and refine their gestures to build a true musical connection. Some moments were intense, others playful—but all revealed the candidates’ artistry and attention to detail.
