At the Opéra : FAQ
First time at the opera
-
Whether you are in jeans and trainers or in something smarter, your choice of outfit is yours entirely.
Come as you are: we want you to feel at ease.
-
The theatre doors open two hours before the performance and the concert hall doors open ½ an hour before the performance.
-
It is forbidden to film and take photos of the performance as well as to record it.
-
The concert hall’s doors close as soon as the show starts. The installation of latecomers in the concert hall is at the discretion of the reception staff and will depend on remaining availability in easily accessible places.
At the end of the interval, the seats mentioned on the tickets shall be available again.
No refunds or ticket exchanges will be made for late arrivals.
-
We offer a wide range of shows and dates and our venue is also divided into several categories, so availability is almost always possible. However, if a performance is sold out, seats may be released later, so we encourage you to join the waiting list if you are offered one.
-
There are many tools available to you to help you gain a better understanding of the work you have chosen. Firstly, we recommend that you visit the page on our web site dedicated to the performance (from 30 days before the performance): you will find a teaser, an explanatory video as well as an information sheet about the show.
On the day of the performance, come and meet us on the 2nd balcony for an educational presentation about the work, 30 minutes before the curtain raises. Lastly, on your entrance to the concert hall, you will be given a programme. If you want to find out more, then our conferences on the performance (Discopéra and An evening with…), will allow you to listen to and discover operas in a different way.
-
The works are sung in their original language. There is a super-titling system in French, Dutch, German and English displayed on 7 screens spread around the different floors of the concert hall in order to be visible to all the categories of places.
-
For practical reasons, especially in the case of last-minute arrivals, the seat numbering mentioned on the ticket must be respected. This avoids confusion and guarantees tranquillity for all spectators.
-
It is forbidden to eat or drink in the auditorium.
The Restaurant and Bar Salzar are open before the performance.
The Salazar and Foyer Bars are open during the intermission.

What are the different seating categories available?
Our theater is divided into 7 categories, ranging from Cat.1 Sup (the best seats, with the most unobstructed view) to Cat. 6 (seats with very limited visibility). These categories are mainly determined by the visibility offered to the stage.Which category should you choose for an optimal experience?
- Cat. 1 Sup and Cat. 1: These seats, located primarily in the stalls and in the front rows of the 1st and 2nd balconies, offer a frontal and unobstructed view of the stage, ideal for fully enjoying the show.
- Cat. 2 and Cat. 3: Located in the middle rows of the balconies and the rear of the stalls, these seats also provide good visibility, although slightly more distant or lateral, but at a more affordable price.
- Cat. 4: These seats are usually higher up and/or on the sides, with partially obstructed visibility at times, but they often provide a good balance between quality and price.
- Cat. 5 and Cat. 6: Seats in these categories, especially at the back of the boxes or the farthest balconies, are the most economical. However, they offer limited visibility and are suitable for those who prioritize price over visual comfort.
Specific Features of Our Theater
- The Stalls: The front rows offer proximity to the actors and total immersion in the performance. All seats in the stalls provide a direct view of the stage.
- The Balconies: The balconies offer a different perspective of the stage, with a more general view. The front rows of the balconies are often highly appreciated for their panoramic view.
- The Boxes: Boxes offer a more intimate setting and generally provide a lateral view. However, the back of the boxes may have reduced or even no visibility. It is important to inquire about the exact layout of each box.
Additional Tips
- Prioritize Central Seats: Seats located in the center of each row and in the stalls usually offer the best view of the stage.
- Avoid the Sides: Seats at the ends of rows may have reduced visibility, especially for side-stage scenery.
- Whenever Possible, Avoid the Back of the Boxes: These often come with significant visibility limitations.
- Already booked but not satisfied with your seat? Feel free to contact the ticket office to check if better seats have become available. We can update your booking if possible.
-
