Sonya Yoncheva
Pleasure of singing
Acclaimed by critics as one of the most talented sopranos of her generation, Sonya Yoncheva embodies the pure pleasure of song. She seems to have been blessed by a fairy godmother since birth. She is beautiful, boasts an exceptional vocal range, sings with innate natural ability and plays her roles with rare intensity.
After her studies in her native Bulgaria, she participated in the gala concert organised in 2003 by Mirella Freni and Nicolaï Ghiaurov in Milan. She went on to obtain grants to help her further her skills with the greatest masters. Fond of Baroque music, she gained notoriety thanks to her ability to sing a repertoire ranging from Monteverdi to Haendel and performed with William Christie in London, Paris, New York and Madrid. She was invited to perform by major players of ancient music such as Marc Minkowski, Emmanuelle Haïm and Diego Fasolis. In 2010, she won the prestigious Placido Domingo Operalia competition. The doors of the biggest opera houses opened for her, where she was welcomed with open arms. She was then attracted by romantic roles. In keeping with the greatest opera singers, Sonya Yoncheva plays all the heroines with unequalled intensity. Sometimes presented as the muse of the New York Met, she travelled the world to offer her performances of Mimi, Violetta, Norma, Antonia, Marguerite, Floria Tosca or Leïla to the delight of us. An unmissable talent!
