The Winter Concert
THE NUTCRACKER, SUITE No. 1, OP. 71 A & SYMPHONY No. 1 IN G MINOR “WINTER DREAMS”, OP. 13
Tchaikovsky stands proud among the pantheon of the most popular Russian composers. The power of his symphonies and the magical beauty of his ballets make him the very essence of the Slavonic soul, mixed with profound western influences.
Symphony No. 1 “Winter Dreams” is much more than a picturesque postcard of the great snowy expanses of the vast territory of Russia. It also evokes the life of the land’s people and includes authentic melodies and popular dances. Moreover, it takes a tragic look at the human condition.
As for the famous Nutcracker, thanks especially to the “Waltz of the Flowers” and “Sugar Plum Fairy”, it offers our ears and imagination a world in which initiation to life is blessed with thousands of poetic facets…
