The Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège nominated for the 2024 International Opera Awards!

On Monday 2nd September, the prestigious Opera magazine published the shortlist of nominations for the 2024 edition of the International Opera Awards. For the first time in its history, the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège is one of the six opera houses nominated in the Opera Company category.

This nomination by a jury of professionals from the world of opera is recognition of the high quality of our opera house’s productions and the significant place it has come to occupy in the European opera landscape.

This nomination of the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège for the International Opera Awards fills me with pride and joy: it is recognition for the hard work produced by all our teams as well as the talent of the artists who give us the pleasure of performing on our stage. Receiving such distinction alongside other prestigious institutions is already a wonderful encouragement to continue the work commenced with Giampaolo Bisanti, to further develop our opera house’s influence.

Stefano Pace, General and Artistic Director

Among the other categories, we are delighted to welcome back a number of artists who have recently appeared on our stage: Rosa Feola, Giulietta acclaimed in May 2024 in I Capuleti e i Montecchi, in the ‘Female singer’ category and Marina Monzó (Liza in La Sonnambula in January 2023) in the ‘Rising Star’ category. As for Arturo Chacón Cruz, who interpreted Hoffmann/Les Contes d’Hoffmann and Don José/Carmen last season and who we will see again this season in the title role of WertherOpera readers and internet users can vote for his talent in the ‘Readers’ Award’ category.

The International Opera Awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday 2nd October 2024 at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, chosen as the best opera company in 2023. The awards ceremony will be screened live on OperaVision.

The International Opera Awards were created in 2012, with the aim of recognising and rewarding success in the opera world, celebrating opera as an artform and generating funds to offer scholarships to young opera talents worldwide. The nominated candidates are assessed by a panel of professionals from the sector, chaired by John Allison, chief editor of Opera magazine
